FAQ
What is XFERALL?
XFERALL is a mobile application intended to be used for inter facility transfers for both acute care, and behavioral health patients. XFERALL removes the frustrating phone calls, and automates the request and messaging between healthcare providers and transfer centers/admissions.
How does it work?
XFERALL matches patient needs to facility capabilities connecting healthcare professionals to many facilities across a designated geographic region. This informs healthcare professionals of capable facilities they may not be aware of, helping place a patient at a faster rate. Once the sending healthcare professional answers a few simple questions, the mobile application connects the patients’ needs with facilities able to provide treatment for the patient. Then with a quick click of a button the referral is sent out to one or more matching facilities. Healthcare providers can then communicate via secure HIPAA compliant texting through the application to secure the transfer. It’s magical! Goodbye to the days of phone calls, voicemails, faxing and long waits!
How is this different than other discharge placement applications?
Very different! XFERALL is the first of its kind application that eliminates phone calls and faxing. Many discharge placement products rely on e-faxing capabilities. They still require phone calls to be placed and sending employees and receiving employees have to be at the computer. With XFERALL you are proactively alerted on your mobile device and can respond in the moment. No faxing or phone calls. XFERALL customers have seen a dramatic reduction in placement times because of our unique approach. And that is just the beginning! Contact us and we will tell you more…
Who can use XFERALL?
Currently XFERALL is available to healthcare professionals who are either part of a larger healthcare institution or in private practice that need to transfer their patient to a service or level of care they are unable to provide for their patient.
What about EMTALA (Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act)?
The XFERALL application is EMTALA compliant. When transferring a patient in an emergency situation, the application does not auto broadcast the request, rather it provides the clinician with a listing of qualified facilities in order of proximity to the sending facility. All clinical decisions are made by the clinician. XFERALL is happy to provide EMTALA compliance documentation upon request.
What about HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act)?
The XFERALL application is HIPAA compliant. PHI is not downloaded to any device. All PHI is encrypted in transit, and encrypted at rest. XFERALL is happy to provide HIPAA compliance documentation upon request.
If I put the XFERALL application on my personal phone will I be violating HIPAA laws?
No, the confidential patient information stored in the application is password protected and adheres to HIPAA confidentiality laws. It would be no different than having remote access to the medical record on your computer. You are responsible for following HIPAA and the policies and procedures of your organization to protect patient confidentiality. So, for example, just as taking a picture of the medical record and sharing the information with unauthorized individuals or taking a picture of a patient and posting it on social media would be a horrible idea and breaking the law, so would sharing confidential information you receive through XFERALL. The XFERALL application itself adheres to all privacy and HIPAA laws and the expectation is that as a responsible healthcare provider you will do the same!
Who Pays?
XFERALL is a free service for sending organizations/healthcare providers, with a service fee paid by the receiving facility for the use of the technology.
Is it Legal?
Yes, at XFERALL we love to adhere to the law! XFERALL is a privately-owned company, with no physician ownership. No fees or financial incentives exist for the sending facilities/healthcare providers. Importantly, sending organizations are provided, through the application, with a comprehensive listing of all capable facilities (as identified through a database published by the United States Department of Health and Human Services) within the designated geographic region, even if such facilities are not XFERALL customers. We include contact information for these non-customer facilities to allow the sending facilities to contact those facilities directly. XFERALL does not participate in the determination of which facilities may be contacted with respect to a particular patient transfer, rather, that determination is left solely to the sending organization.
Who owns XFERALL?
XFERALL is a private company, owned and controlled by its founders. We are financed by a number of different personal and corporate investors.
What if I sign up for an XFERALL account and then change jobs?
If you change the healthcare company you are working for just send us a request and we will change your account to your new healthcare company so you can start sending patients from your new place of employment.
How do I sign-up to become a healthcare provider sender through XFERALL?
For any healthcare provider that wants to transfer/send patients through the XFERALL application, just download the app from the app store and request a user account. You can also request an account through our website at xferall.com. If you are working for a healthcare company, please ask your supervisor to ensure a BAA (business associate agreement) has been signed and is in place as well.
What’s a BAA (Business Associate Agreement)?
Under the U.S. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, a HIPAA business associate agreement (BAA) is a contract between a HIPAA-covered entity (this would be your organization) and a business associate (this would be XFERALL). The contract protects personal health information (PHI) in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
How do I get my healthcare company to be a participating provider with XFERALL and receive electronic request for incoming transfers?
Just send us a request at (info@xferall.com). We would love to have you as part of the XFERALL network so we can take care of the transfers and you can get back to taking care of your patients!
What if my healthcare facility would like to have national presence through XFERALL?
No, problem. XFERALL is here to connect patients to healthcare facilities that are a good match regardless of how far the distance. Simply discuss with an XFERALL representative about the option for a national ad to showcase your facility throughout the nation.
Does XFERALL provide business analytics?
YES! At XFERALL we love data and metrics and understand they are crucial for making strategic business decisions. Business analytic packages are available for XFERALL participating providers to help healthcare companies make informed decisions about how to best structure their company to best help their patients.
What if I think XFERALL is the best thing since sliced bread and I want all my healthcare friends to use it and all my favorite healthcare facilities/companies to sign-up?
That’s fantastic! Spread the word to your all your friends in healthcare and all your favorite healthcare facilities to sign up for the XFERALL app to make everyone’s life easier and help patients get the care they need quickly to save lives and reduce that stay on the emergency department stretcher.
