XFERALL to Present at DCHA’s Opioid Response Symposium

XFERALL’s chief clinical officer, Shana Palmieri, LCSW, will give a special presentation at the District of Columbia Hospital Association’s Opioid Response Symposium in April. Two of XFERALL’s co-founders called DC home and spent time working in one of the busiest hospitals in the nation’s capital. Drawing on their work together, they combined their clinical and information technology expertise to create XFERALL with the sole purpose of solving one of the most intractable problems in health care delivery today – timely placement of patients needing behavioral health care in treatment appropriate for their condition, need, and demographics.

“I’m delighted to come back to DC and talk with other behavioral health leaders and innovators about how XFERALL is working to improve access to timely mental health and substance use disorder treatment,” said Palmieri. “From my work in emergency departments as a psychiatric social worker, I saw every day the tragic delays in care that result from clinicians’ having to spend hour upon hour calling behavioral health facilities and programs to find care availability.”

2020 and 2021 were record years for opioid-related deaths in DC, mirroring national trends. The reasons for the increases include pandemic-related isolation and stress, lack of access to treatment, and disconnection from support systems due to social distancing and travel restrictions, and increased unemployment.

The District of Columbia Hospital Association partners with XFERALL to give its members an additional tool to further their commitment to safe, high quality patient care. The partnership is one of several the association is involved in to ensure behavioral health needs are being met across the region. XFERALL works with acute hospitals, behavioral health facilities and outpatient programs, mobile crisis teams, and substance use providers in states across the country to accelerate access to behavioral health treatment.
